NSF Knitting Weekend

Every weekend is a knitting weekend for me, but the last one was special since I was at the annual meeting for the Norwegian Knitting Association – Norsk Strikkeforbund – at Scandic Oslo Airport Hotel at Gardermoen. I am not a member of the board but I am the editorial “team” for the digital membership magazine called “På pinnen“/On the Needle and work with editor designer & author Tove Fevang (standing talking to a new board member). We were about 60 knitters attending. It was a perfect opportunity to meet known and unknown knitters and I took the opportunity to have a stand to sell my printed patterns. The program for the weekend was filled with annual meeting, talks, workshops, knitting and chatting as well as delicious meals! Below you see part of my stand, next to Margrete Slettan, Villull aka britstrikkenerd shop &  instagram and Jeanette & Jeanine Førland (with the ponytail), aka knitknotnine. Continue reading

Iglu Knitted by Rena Goeschel

Let me introduce to you to German test knitter and patron Rena Goeschel, aka Rainbow1907 on Ravelry, wearing her Iglu. The fuchsia colour is one of her favourites and this shade is called “I’m Off To Tinsel Town” in the stunning hand dyed Posh Yarn Martha Sock. Rena knitted the poncho that comes in one size with a bust circumference of 194 cm/76.5” using 3 mm/US 2.5 and 3.25 mm/US 3 needles to achieve the gauge of 21 stitches and 30 rows in stockinette stitch measuring 10 cm/4″ square.

Rena is a very skilled knitter and has test knitted a large number of my designs, I am pleased to say.  Thank you so much for these lovely photos, Rena!

Here is my introduction to the pattern: Iglu is a lightweight poncho to live in, hence the Inuit name Iglu, with a Celtic cable on center front and back. The poncho has sleeve parts in rib and a collar in garter stitch ending in a I-cord. It is beautifully knitted with shaped shoulders in the bouncy and lustrous Sølje Pelsull.

The Iglu pattern, is available in both English and Norwegian, on both Ravelry and LoveCrafts. In addition you will find yarn kits with an English or Norwegian pattern available directly from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk.

Iglu Knitted by Beth

Now, look at this fantastic fade project. This is Beth, aka yarnbeth, living in South Carolina in the US and her test knit version of my design Iglu. She made a swatch with her fade options from her stash and selected the darker tones and less variation in colour, all in Madeline Tosh yarns, as Beth wrote on her project page: “Toner Cartridge, Pigeon Wing, and Cove are “in”, and I bought some Pelican in Pashmina”. Beth is an experienced knitter (read: knitted from the age of 12) and the perfect test knitter, with her meticuluous attention to detail. On her project page there is a lot of information including the modifications she made to the one sized poncho: The major ones are that Beth worked 1 pattern repeat less on the body to shorten it, and added rounds of ribbing on the sleeve part to fit her perfectly. Beth also wrote down her fade progression, from top down:
(1) Pelican on Madelinetosh Pashmina
(2) Pigeon Wing on Madelinetosh DK Twist
(3) Cove on Madelinetosh MCN Sport
(4) Toner Cartridge on Madelinetosh Work SockBeth has also styled and photographed the poncho so beautifully. The garden backdrop highlights the colours in her poncho and hair. She also writes the following on her project page: “Love the cable on this design – really pretty”. I am very happy to hear it, and that she is test knitting more of my designs! Thank you so much, Beth!

Apiri Collection E-book

Apiri Collection is my third E-book, made after I received several requests for gathering these four patterns on Ravelry. First out is the English version, the Norwegian version will be added shortly. Apiri is a collection of knitting designs made in collaboration with Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk in their gorgeous pelt wool yarns called Tinde and Sølje. The names of the garments are inspired by the Eskimo-Aleut languages. Apiri means ”to ask” and seamed perfect since two of the designs are garments that can be worn in different ways and hence change their character and silhouette completely. On the cover is the Wa shawl, which means ”here it is” as it can be transformed into a vest or a wrap. The divine lime colour, and casual elegance that model Alexandria Eissinger wears the shawl made it the cover shoot. The collection has four designs; the poncho Iglu, the shawl Wa, the cardigan Suli and the pullover Aki. Iglu is oversized and available in one size, just like Wa, while the more fitted garments; Suli and Aki are available in six sizes.

The Ingierstrand Bad Restaurant, on the outskirts of Oslo is a functionalistic building with a view of the Bunnefjord. It is an icon in Norwegian modern architectural history and a popular place to celebrate weddings. As a background we choose the diving tower on the nearby beach and the quay, where the ferry from Oslo used to dock. Photographer Eivind Røhne was chosen to capture the brilliant moments of model Alexandria Eissinger, with hair & make up by Jens J. Wiker, as well as statement jewelry by Kaja Gjedebo Design.

I wish to thank this amazing team for their co-operation, as well as tchnical editor Corrina Ferguson, sample knitters; Airin Hansen & Kristin Nygård, my test knitters – for improving the patterns – and last but not least, my husband, whose support and technical aid I could not have done without.
