Ravelry Group 8th Year Anniversary

My Ravelry group is now 8 years old! There are now more than 2100 members and my fear that only a few would join was needless. I am so pleased to have attracted so many wonderful knitters! It has been another thrilling year with many test knits of my English patterns, showing off of finished garments, discussions of different knitting techniques, chatting and Knit-A-Longs just to mention a few of the topics in this lovely group. I am delighted to have met so many new knitters. So it is time to celebrate that eight years has passed! How can I best do this? By organizing a draw in my group with 10 exciting prizes like yarn kits (2 sponsored by Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk and 2 from my stash), e-books and pdf patterns from my Ravelry Store.

Bubala Knitted by Siret Sinimäe

I am so thrilled to show you the stunning Bubala that Siret, aka kollane on Ravelry, test knitted for me, here worn by her dear daughter Annika. The photos are taken on a cloudy morning in the Koigi bog trail on the island of Saaremaa, in Estonia. On her project page on Ravelry, Siret writes: “As a Patron of Linda, I have the opportunity to see new designs a little earlier and this Bubala immediately caught my eye. Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk Sølje yarn, which I received as a gift from Linda, was perfect for a wonderful V-neck design with bobbles.”

Siret made her Bubala Red in size medium and used the recommended 3 mm/US 2.5 needle with a 24 stitches and 32 rows gauge in stockinette stitch measuring 10 cm/4″ square. The pullover took less than 3 skeins to make with modified short sleeves.

Siret continues on her project page: “I made Bubala with short sleeves. I like to wear a vest designed by Linda Devona which is knitted from the same yarn, and I thought that the red Bubala with short sleeves is definitely worth wearing a lot, because it won’t get hot even when you’re indoors”.

This is such a great photo and shows the fun Annika had modelling this. The last photo I will share with you is a detail of the body, which shows more of Annika’s romantic dress too! Thank you ever so much, Siret and Annika for these magnificent photos!

Named Bubala Yiddish for close to one’s heart is this cabled pullover with bobbles. A deep v-neck that can be worn on the front or on the back, split the cable into two single cables. The same single cable adorn the sleeve. Ribbing frame the cables in the sides and make the sweater figure hugging. The v-neck ends in an I-cord bind-off. Bubala is knitted in the bouncy Sølje pelt wool from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk.

Bubala is available, in sizes XS to 5XL, as a yarn kit from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk with either an English or a Norwegian pattern. You can buy the individual pattern from Ravelry and soon from LoveCrafts too.

Photoshoot at Bøler Church May 2020: Bubala

I am so far behind in showing you photos from my previous photoshoot at Bøler Church back in May 2020. The next one I will show you is my design Bubala made for Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk, worn by the gorgeous Olivia Lindtein, with hair & make-up by Sissel Fylling and jewellery by Kaja Gjedebo Design, captured by Eivind Røhne. Bubala is knitted in the divine Sølje pelt wool yarn using a 3 mm/US 2.5 needle with a 24 stitches and 32 rows gauge in stockinette stitch per 10 cm/4″ square. The English pattern is available on Ravelry and the Norwegian will be added shortly. Yarn kits with either an English or a Norwegian pattern is available directly from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk.

I choose to style Bubala with a pair of pencil pants, a Wolford tube top and boots by Monica Stålvang. The v-neck was originally made to be worn at the front, but I must admit that I love how wonderful it looked when Olivia wore it at the back. See the photo below.

The pullover is worked back and forth in separate pieces and seamed. The bobble is made using a crochet hook with an extra fastening trick, see the video link in the pattern.

I have graded the pattern from sizes XS to 5XL with a bust circumference of 85 to 153 cm/33.5 to 60″. The intended ease is + 5-7 cm/2-2.75”, while the sample shown is 92 cm/36.25” and worn with + 9 cm/3.5” ease on Olivia.

New Design: Bubala

The second design I made for Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk for this autumn is the pullover Bubala, the sample is brilliantly knitted by Grete Jenssen, aka ma9 on Ravelry, in the shade “støvet rosa”/Dusty Pink. Named Bubala Jewish for close to one’s heart is this cabled pullover with bobbles. A deep v-neck that can be worn on the front or on the back, split the cable into two single cables. The same single cable adorn the sleeve. Ribbing frame the cables in the sides and make the sweater figure hugging. The v-neck ends in an I-cord bind-off. Bubala is knitted in the bouncy Sølje pelt wool from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk. The yarn kit with either English or Norwegian pattern will be launched this autumn, while the English pattern will be test knitted in my Ravelry group beginning in Mid October before it is released.

The pullover is worked back and forth in separate pieces and seamed. The gauge is 24 stitches and 32 rows in stockinette stitch using a 3 mm/US 2.5 needle measures 10 cm/4″ square.

The half double crochet bobble (US. Half treble UK) is made using a crochet hook with an extra fastening trick that Grete discovered while making the bobbles. As a starting point we used the video made by designer Andrea Mowry.

In these photos taken by Michael at the beach in Ørje, you see me wearing size Small with a 92 cm/36″ bust circumference with 4 cm/1.5″ of positive ease. I have graded the pattern from size XS to 5XL with a bust circumference of 85 cm to 153 cm/33.5 to 60″. The pullover is not fitted but the ribbing surrounding the cable will make it follow the lines of your body. Michael did want me to wait until the duck was in the photo, see the top two pictures.

I loved the cable pattern that ends in bobbles as soon as I saw it and discovered that I could easily divide it into two parts by ending the center cable to create a deep v-neck. That meant that the outer two cables could follow along the shape of the v-neck. In addition I could use a single cable on each sleeve as the whole panel would be too wide for the sleeve.

It was not until we photographed it, that I realised that I could easily wear it with the v-neck on the back instead of the front. The back neck is only slightly shaped, but since the front v-neck shaping is so deep, it works. Hence you can choose if you want to wear the v-neck at the front or the back.

Bubala looked divine on modell Olivia Lindtein at our photoshoot and I look forward to showing you the pictures that photographer Eivind Røhne captured.
