New Design: Mairead

I should have shown you this design a long time ago, but better late than never. Here it is the vest Mairead designed for Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk knitted by my sample knitter Nadja in a divine light green-turquoise. Named Mairead, Irish for pearl, is this high-low vest adorned with Celtic cables crowned with an I-cord neckband. The sides are made with a triple selvedge, to make the longer back part lie flat. The vest is seamed with the neckband worked in the round. Mairead is knitted in the airy Norwegian combed wool yarn Ask from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk.

The idea for this high-low vest began when I picked the two icy pastel colours that looked so good next to each other. I instantly began planning an outfit with an ice green pullover – Riona – and a turquoise vest to go on top.

Both are knitted in Ask a pure wool from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk using a 3.5 mm/US 4 needle and a 22 stitches and 30 rows gauge in stockinette stitch measuring 10 cm/4″ after blocking.

I have graded the vest in sizes XS to 5XL with a bust circumference of 98 to 182 cm/38.5 to 71.75″. In these photos you see me wearing size XS with 10 cm/4″ positive ease. Michael took these photos of me in our front garden back in September. Yarn kits with either a Norwegian or English pattern are available from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk. The English pattern of Mairead will be test knitted beginning on Monday 7th of November in my Ravelry Group. Both the English and the Norwegian pattern will be released when the test knit is completed. In the mean time I will show you how stunning it looked on model Emmalin Williams.
