I have been looking forward to releasing the pattern to the dress and cowl/belt Oráiste made for Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk in Ask. The test knit has come to an end and you can see some of the gorgeous versions made on the pattern page on Ravelry. My test knitters did a brilliant job correcting and improving the pattern. Named Oráiste, Irish for orange, is this seamless oversized straight dress with two cables in the side that are moved out of the armhole and continue to run along the raglan decreases to the neckline. Both the body and the stockinette sleeves are worked in the round with a hem at the bottom. Oráiste ends in an I-cord crew neckline but can be dressed up with the double cowl that can also be worn as a belt around your hips. The dress and cowl are knitted in the airy Norwegian combed wool yarn Ask from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk.

Needles: 2 sets of 3.5 mm/US 4 circular needle (80 cm/32”, extra set for hem).
3.5 mm/US 4 circular needle (40 cm/16”)
Adjust needle size as needed to match gauge.
Notions: Stitch markers (removable), cable needle, stitch holders, 3.5 mm/US 4 (E) crochet hook, waste yarn and yarn needle.
Gauge: 22 sts and 30 rows in st st using 3.5 mm/US 4 needle measures 10 cm/4” square after blocking.
16 sts in Cable measures about 6 cm/2.25” across after blocking.
Notes: The dress is worked in the round from the bottom and up, seamlessly. The cables in the side are divided and moved out of the armhole before it is shaped. Stitches are set aside for the armhole and grafted together with the armhole stitches on the sleeve, where one extra stitch is picked up. The raglan decreases are worked in stockinette stitch. The cowl is worked in the round, with an interfacing part, and the ends are grafted together at the end. Adjust the length of the cowl, if you want to use it as a belt around your hips.
Length adjustment: Adjust the length of the dress before the cable move, just before the raglan armhole on the body. For an up to 3.5 cm/1.5” shorter raglan armhole, work 10 rounds less and decrease more frequently up to every round at the top, adjust the number of decreases according to the raglan decreases table in your chosen size.
