My new jacket design Khayam is part of a set and was actually made after the matching trousers called Laplace. I am showing you Khayam first as I have yet to grade and finish the Laplace pattern. The sample jacket was beautifully knitted by Grete Jenssen, aka ma9 on Ravelry, for me. Named after the mathematician Omar Khayyam who worked on problems of Algebra is this long slightly oversized jacket with a cable collar and long cuffs. The remaining parts are knitted in stockinette stitch to make the cable stand out. A double belt in stockinette stitch highlights the beginning of the collar. Khayam is worked in pieces for the ultimate fit and made to be worn with the Laplace trousers as a set. Both are knitted in the Bendigo Woollen Mills Classic 5 ply with a crepe construction.

The jacket is worked in pieces and seamed. A narrow frontband is worked before the collar on each front and folded to the Wrong Side and attached at the end. Each collar part is worked along the back neck to the center and ends in short rows, before the two parts are joined with a 3-needle bind off. The belt is worked like a double hem and the belt loops are short I-cords that are inserted into the side seam.

The yarn is Bendigo Woollen Mills Classic 5 ply made of 100% wool in large 200 gram balls with 580 meters/634 yards and it knits with a 24 stitches and 34 rows in stockinette stitch gauge using a 3.75 mm/US 5 needle measures 10 cm/4″ square. 

I am wearing size Small, in these photos taken by my husband in our front garden back in November, but I have graded it into sizes XS to 5XL with a bust circumference of 98 to 172 cm/38.5 to 67.75″. The Khayam pattern will be released in both English and Norwegian after test knitting which begins on June 6th in my Ravelry group. Soon I will show you the trousers as well as how stunning the set looked on Model Olivia Lindtein during our photoshoot at Sentralen back in December.
