Kaibara Knitted by Britt Grandin

Britt Grandin, aka brittg on Ravelry, is a very skilled Swedish knitter who has made so many of my designs (39!) and I shared her gorgeous Regal Purple Jacket on my blog back in 2016. Here is her wonderful Kaibara – or not, knitted in Adriafil Cheope, a cotton yarn from her stash, using a 3.5 mm/US needle. The summer top looks so stylish on her and it is perfectly styled with white trousers, photographed in an idyllic spot!

You will find the reason for the name in her project notes: “I really love Linda Marveng’s sweet Kaibara summer top and immediately decided that I just had to knit it. I initially joined the test knit of this sweet design in the good faith that I would follow the pattern. The pattern is brilliantly written, as are all Linda’s patterns, and the original top is stunning. Nevertheless I wanted to incorporate some ideas of my own. I had soon made so many deviations from the pattern that I no longer thought it fair to Linda to call it a test knit of her pattern.”

Britt wanted her Kaibara version to have a more pronounced a-line shape and an empire waist, in addition to shorter sleeves. You can read in detail about the modifications that she made to it on her project page on Ravelry.

Britt’s conclusion is: “I think this sweater is very versatile and can be made for any occasion depending on which yarn you use. My cotton version is of course much more casual than the original luxurious silk top, but I’m really pleased with my Kaibara! A highly recommended pattern!” I am so thrilled to hear it and so thankful for this amazing version of Kaibara! Thank you, Britt! The pattern – my version – is available in English and Norwegian on Ravelry and LoveCrafts and don’t forget to check out Britt’s modifications.
