Photographer Eivind Røhne captured the gorgeous Ammal Ahmed Haj Mohamed, with make-up & hair by Hina Suleman, wearing Japana at the photoshoot at Galleri Würth back in June. I decided to style the oversized pullover with my Japanese trousers and boots by Monica Stålvang.
Here is the introduction I have written for the pattern: Japana – whispering in Japanese – is a high-low pullover in a ridge pattern with swinging side panels that ends in a high standing collar. The side panels are picked up and knitted after the side seams are done. Wear it as you like; hanging loose or gathered with a belt or with a shawlpin at the front. Japana is knitted in the lovely wool and silk yarn Madara from Noro.
Ammal is wearing size 2 with 52 cm/20.5″ positive ease. I have graded the pattern in sizes 1 to 9 with a bust circumference of 125 to 196 cm/49.25 to 77.25″ and a recommended ease of 40-56 cm/15.75-22″ positive ease.
I knitted the sample using 4.5 mm/US 7 needle with a 17 stitches and 24 rows in stockinette stitch gauge measuring 10 cm/4″ square after blocking. The yarn was kindly sponsored by Knitting Fever. The pullover is worked back and forth in pieces from the bottom and up, then seamed. The side panel is picked up and knitted after the shoulder and side seams. The collar is worked in the round. A circular needle is used due to the large stitch number.
The English and Norwegian pattern will be launched 20th of February, after test knitting in my group on Ravelry.
