New Design: Japana

The next new design I will share with you is Japana made in the lovely wool and silk yarn Madara from Noro. The yarn is generously sponsored by the US agent, Knitting Fever. Michael photographed me wearing size 2 with 46 cm/18″ positive ease at our local museum: Haldenvassdragets Kanalmuseum. I have graded the pattern in sizes 1 to 9 with a bust circumference of 124 to 195 cm/48.75 to 76.75″ and a recommended ease of 40-56 cm/15.75-22″ positive ease.

Japana – whispering in Japanese – is a high-low pullover in a ridge pattern with swinging side panels that ends in a high standing collar. The side panels are picked up and knitted after the side seams are done. Wear it as you like; hanging loose or gathered with a belt or with a shawlpin at the front. Japana is knitted in the lovely wool and silk yarn Madara from Noro.

The pullover is worked back and forth in pieces from the bottom and up, then seamed. The side panel is picked up and knitted after the shoulder and side seams. The collar is worked in the round. A circular needle is used due to the large stitch number.

I knitted the sample using 4.5 mm/US 7 needle with a 17 stitches and 24 rows in stockinette stitch gauge measuring 10 cm/4″ square after blocking. The test knit begins on Monday in my Ravelry group, while the English and Norwegian pattern will be launched 20th of February. Before that happens, I will show you how stunning it looked on model Ammal Ahmed Haj Mohamed.
