One of the first things I spotted when I came off the train at Åndalsnes, together with the knitting trip group, was the cable car – Romsdalen Gondola – going to the top of Nesaksla Mountain 708 meters/2323 feet above sea level. I instantly knew that I wanted to try it out to see the epic view of the peaks and fjords at the top. Luckily we had some time off after the last set of workshops; I held in Cable Knitting Masterclass and Terje Tjelle, aka StrikkeTerje – who organised the trip on behalf of Travel Maker – held in Colourful Mittens in Multicoloured Yarn, at the Grand Hotel.
Most of the group wanted to visit the top of the mountain. Here is a view from the balcony at the top looking down at Åndalsnes and the Isfjorden/Ice Fjord. I filmed the whole journey up the mountain, in the video I made from the whole knitting trip, this is only available for my paying Patrons here: www.patreon.com.
Just off the gondola, looking out at the spectacular view. We were so lucky to have such good weather, despite the icy cold wind.
At the top there is a restaurant/café/bar with amazing views, walkways and plenty of trails as well as steps leading all the way down to Åndalsnes.
The walkways gave you a majestic views, especially if you zoom in, like Michael has done here.
Eggen is the name of the restaurant, next to the staircase leading all the way down.
The entrance to the Gondola, with the restaurant building next to it and I am standing on the walkway above.
There are mountain views all the way around you at the top.
Here I am on the walkway captured by Michael. I am trying to keep my eyes open in the icy wind. I am wearing my Saqqara – the shawl part.
Check out the sign with the different trails.
I just had to photograph the stairs leading down to Rampestreken (The Mischief – viewing point platform, about 20 minutes steep walk) and Åndalsnes.
Along the trails you will guide with names of the mountains.
And here is the trail leading to the guide.
Here is the view from the highest point I found secure (read: I am no climber…) The trip with the Romsdalen Gondola cannot be recommended warmly enough – so if you have the chance, take it! The mountain views were a perfect end to our knitting trip to Rauma. I had a wonderful time, thank you to Terje & Travel Maker for organising this and to all the knitters that came along!
