I have been looking forward to showing you my new design, Kamika, made for Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk in their lovely Sol lamullgarn. My initial idea was to make a fitted dress with travelling cables and swinging side panels that would end in a crew neck. But the result was tunic, rather than a dress, as I was guessing the length and got that wrong. However, it can still be worn as a dress, depending on how long you prefer your dresses. Michael took these photos of me wearing it at Kistefos Museum, back in May.
Kamika – Japanese for little goddess – is a shaped tunic adorned with travelling cables and swinging side panels that ends in a crew neck. Kamika is worked in pieces for the ultimate fit, with the side panels picked up at the end after sewing the side seams. Wear it as you prefer as a dress or a tunic, with or without a belt. Kamika is knitted in the soft Norwegian lambswool yarn Sol from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk.
I am wearing size 2 with 6 cm/2.25″ positive ease, but the pattern will be available in sizes 1 to 9 with a bust circumference of 86 to 162 cm/33.75 to 63.75″. My sample knitter Nadja knitted this sample in Melert mørk kamel/Melange Dark Camel using a 3.5 mm/US 4 needle with a 21 stitches and 30 rows in stockinette stitch gauge, measuring 10 cm/4″ square.
Yarn kits with an English or a Norwegian pattern of Kamika will be available soon directly from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk, while the individual pattern will be released after the test knit beginning 4th of November has been completed. Before then I will share the wonderful photos of Ammal Ahmed Haj Mohamed that photographer Eivind Røhne took back in June.
