I have for a long time wanted to try out mYak’s Tibetan yarn, especially their amazing Baby Yak Medium, hence I was delighted to meet Carlotta at their stand at Barcelona Knits last year. She asked me to pick a colour, and I chose Mustard, to test out, then contact her as soon as I had a plan. A heavily cabled pullover that was straight, not fitted nor A-line, was my idea. mYak offered me a very good discount, so that I was able to use their yarn. Here you see the result, I am wearing Arine in size 2 with 13 cm/5″ positive ease, photographed by Michael at our local museum: Haldenvassdragets Kanalmuseum. The yarn is made of 100% Baby Yak and has 117 meters/128 yards on each 50 gram skein. It feels like a DK yarn, but is actually a Worsted yarn, hence I started with a needle size way to small until I changed to a 4.5 mm/US 7 for the main parts in cable pattern and a 3.75 mm/US 5 for the ribs. The gauge is 19 stitches and 28 rows in stockinette stitch using 4.5 mm/US 7 needle measuring 10 cm/4″ square after blocking.Arine – Japanese for one who is full of joy – is this pullover adorned with cables, framed by double seed stitch in each side. The pullover is crowned by a twisted rib neckband that ends in a tubular bind off and has set-in sleeves. Arine is worked in pieces for the ultimate fit, in the gorgeous Baby Yak Medium by mYak.I have graded the pattern in 9 sizes with a bust circumference of 93 to 164 cm/36.5 to 64.5″ and hope to have a number of knitters taking part in the test knitting beginning on the 18th of November in my Ravelry group. mYak is generously offering a 20% discount for test knitters who want to work it in the original yarn. The English and Norwegian pattern will be launched 30th of December. Before that happens, I will show you how stunning it looked on model Ammal Ahmed Haj Mohamed.
