I have been back to the Strikkefestivalen/Knitting Festival in Fredrikstad, one hour south of Oslo, last Friday (13th of September to 15th) with lovely weather as you can see in these photos.
It takes place in the lovely Fredrikstad Old Town; the oldest fortified town in Norway (founded in 1567) and in the Nordic countries, and one of the best-preserved fortress towns in Northern Europe. Above is the Old Fredrikstad Church, dating back from 1779.
I held a new workshop called; Design Your Own Sweater, in Norwegian, and had eleven knitters signed on. Some of these I had actually met before in a previous workshop, so that was fun. But as always, I enjoyed meeting knitters I had not met before too!
In the knit café there was an exhibition of Annual blankets – where you work 1 ridge a day and use one colour every time when the month change. The one you see above has 12 colours (4 tones scale) made for Liv born 30.11.2023 in Helsinki. 340 stitches are cast on using 4 mm/US 6 needle in Rauma Finull yarn.
Here are amazing strong colours in Hedgehog Fibres Yarn available at the Pinnsvin Design stand (and online). The yarn is well know for its hand dyed bright colours.
Designer & Author Tove Fevang had a pop-up shop after her talk about Shetland’s Knitting History, with plenty of Jamieson’s of Shetland yarn on sale. Yes, excited knitters made this mess, as they had to touch it all…
The festival volunteers did a marvellous job assisting the organisers. I had a fabulous time, talking to knitters, designers and shop owners! Thank you to the organisers and everyone I met!
