New Design: Chiye

Chiye is an open vest designed for Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk in their gorgeous Sol lambswool yarn. I wanted to adorn the vest with a cable that moved from the center to the shoulder on the front and followed your spine on the back. To make the move easy, I decided to let the V-neck shaping move the cable to the shoulder, hence you work the decrease closer to the armhole than you would otherwise do.

I knitted the vest with a 21 stitches and 30 rows in Stockinette stitch using a 3.5 mm/US 4 needle measuring 10 cm/4” square after blocking. In these photos you can see me wearing the sample in size 2, out of 9, with 6 cm/2.25″ positive ease. Michael has photographed me at our local museum – The Halden Canal Museum – in Ørje.  Chiye – Japanese for blessed – is this A-line vest with central braids that move towards the shoulder on the fronts and follow your spine on the back. A double seed stitch panel adds depths to the cables, before the sides fade into stockinette stitch. The vest is framed by double stockinette stitch bands at the bottom and along the opening. A deep V-neck makes the vest a great layering piece, that you can close with a shawl pin. Chiye is knitted in the soft Norwegian lambswool yarn Sol from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk.

Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk will sell yarn kits with English or Norwegian pattern online from September. The test knit begins in my Ravelry group on the 7th of October, before the English and Norwegian pattern will be released.
